I attended a service event at Interfaith Ministries, and helped to assemble packages for people who do not have reliable access to food. This experience required collaboration because I worked which a group of students from National Honor Society in an assembly line to create food packages, and organized the items so that they are prepared for people to receive. Additionally, we needed to communicate with each other to ensure that we had enough of each item which the packages required. This fulfills the service and action aspects of CAS because around 1300 people rely on these food packages as their primary source of food for the week, and the work of volunteer groups is essential for ensuring that people receive what they need. Also, this required physical activity because we worked for over two hours, and carried crates filled with supplies, as well as the finished packages of food into the loading area of the building. This event fulfills the Learning Outcome: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively, because successfully volunteering at Interfaith Ministries required constant communication and joint effort between all of the students who attended the event.

Watercolour Flowers For Yearbook CREATIVITY LO1
8 February 2020
For the school yearbook, I completed ten watercolor flowers to be included on some of the pages, and to add to the theme of growth which our school yearbook will be based on. Each grade level will be represented by a different color of flower, and they will be used as a background design. This process included remaining in contact with the yearbook committee, and learning about which flowers and which colors they were interested in having. Following this, I created sketches for ten different flowers, and used a combination of acrylic paint and watercolor pencils to create different shades and senses of dimension to complete each of the paintings. This process taught me to develop my artistic skills because I am familiar with using acrylic paint; however, watercolor is a medium which I am less familiar with. Also, this project will have a positive impact on the school community because people who wish to remember this school year with sentiment will also be able to look at the art of a student from that year, which will make the yearbook seem personal. This fulfills the creativity aspect of CAS because I used my creative skills to create the different flowers, and make them look realistic, this also fulfilled the first learning outcome: Identify your own strengths, and develop areas for personal growth, because I developed my skills to use watercolor paint, so that I will be able to create other paintings in the future.

Chinatown Scavenger Hunt ACTION LO5
January 10 2020
Today during the China, The Chinese People, and Chinese Culture J-Term I participated in a group scavenger hunt through Chinatown to learn more about the area's role in the Houston community. During this experience, my group and I walked through Houston's Chinatown and were required to complete a list of tasks which was established by our teacher. Some of those tasks included speaking with various people, and learning about which province in China their family is from. Some other tasks included locating decorations for Chinese New Year, taking photos of some Chinese characters which we recognized, and filming a video with a stranger promoting peace and love. This experience taught me how to work with a team of people to properly and efficiently complete the tasks, and we ensured to have each other's backs so that we remained safe during the process. This fulfills the activity aspect of CAS because we were required to walk several blocks throughout Chinatown, and this fulfills the following learning outcome: Demonstrate skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

NHS Interfaith Ministries Event SERVICE LO6
December 12, 2019
Today I assisted a non-profit organization called Chore Chops, which is an extension of interfaith ministries, and assisted two elderly people with household and outdoors work which they would have been unable to complete on their own. This activity was a service event which was organized for National Honor Society, and I worked with a group of other students to rake the leaves in one Houston residents's front lawn, and to organize the kitchen of another residents home. This experience taught me about the struggles which people face on an everyday basis, which often escape my mind, and it was emotionally difficult to imagine what it would be like to experience poverty in similar ways as the people we experienced. Additionally, this taught me the impact which can be made when people take a limited amount of time out of their days to assist others who are in need of both help and empathy. This event fulfilled the service aspect of CAS and the following learning outcomes: Recognize and consider the ethics behind choices and actions, and Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Storytelling Through Photography CREATIVITY LO1
14 November 2019
Today in Photography club, I worked alongside the other members to study how the elements of a series of photos can express meaning, connect to each other, and convey a story. We began this activity by looking at some examples of photos which express messages such as oppression, human nature, and divisions between people. I learned that taking repetitive photos while making slight changes to each frame can be used as a tool to express a process, and adjusting the angle of a photo can express connotations of power or vulnerability. Following this we completed an exercise where we took screenshots at various moments of music videos, and placed them in orders which could convey the story of the artist, or stories of our own design. This activity fulfills the following learning outcome: Identify own strengths and areas for growth, as I have had limited experience with how the objects and points of view of a photo can tell a narrative story. Also, this fulfills the creativity aspect of CAS.

Aesthetic Photography in Montrose ACTION LO1
October 17 2019
Today in photography club, we walked as a group around the Montrose area to practice our aesthetic photography skills. We each brought a camera, and took pictures of plants, signs, spray painted pieces, and other aspects which people may be drawn to overlook. Following this, we used editing techniques such as selective color, and lighting adjustments to give out photos a whimsical, artistic feel. This experience taught me that it is possible to highlight ordinary aspects of the world is ways which can cause people to have a better appreciation for them. This activity fulfilled the following learning outcome: Identify your own strengths and develop area for growth, as I have been practice photography for several years, however, this experience allowed me to experiment with aesthetic photography; something which I have limited experience with. Also, this activity fulfills the action aspect of CAS as we walked through the neighborhoods near our high school as a group, which required physical activity.

Photography Club Camara Basics CREATIVITY LO1
September 20, 2019
In photography club this past week, we spent time as a group learning how to adjust the manual setting of a camera to achieve certain effects. For instance, we learned that depending on the speed of the photo's subject, the shutter speed of the camera should either be adjusted to be slower or faster. Also the ISO should be adjusted based on the quality of the outside light, and the aperture should be adjusted based on how close or far the subject is from the lens of the camera. This fulfills the creativity aspect of CAS as we spent time as a group practicing how to use the manual setting of out cameras around the school, and toke some artistic photos. Also this fulfills the following learning outcome: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth, as I was already knowledgeable about how to use the manual settings of a camera, however, practicing solidified my skills.
